We’re looking at possibly double-digit snowfall here in North Carolina today, which hasn’t happened in a really long time. So everyone’s panicked. My way to deal with the upcoming snow day? Head to the store for some snow day essentials. I thought it would be fun to share our “essentials” for surviving a couple days stuck in the house together.
I bought an extra gallon of milk – because if we get all this snow, I know we’ll go through a ton for snow cream.
Extra sugar, also for snow cream. Pastas! Ditalini is one of my favorites for chicken soup, and I’m planning to make some in the Crockpot tomorrow. And I thought wagon wheel pasta would be fun in the lasagna soup I wanted to try. (Side note: I already made the lasagna soup, and it was SO good.)
Lots of chicken broth for all the soup I want to eat.
Frozen pizzas because I feel guilty if I consider ordering pizza for delivery when there’s a lot of snow. And extra frozen waffles for Brinky because they’ve been one of the foods he’s willing to eat lately.
And you know, just in case the power goes out, some non-perishable junk food, like potato chips and Doritos.
And Goldfish. (Yes, we still have homemade Halloween decorations hanging in our kitchen. And apparently a lot of dust on top of the refrigerator now that I’m looking closely at this picture.)
And a little more non-perishable snack food…
Secret snacks for me, to be hidden from my kids. Though Jenny just ate one, so obviously I didn’t do a good job.
And, just in case we absolutely need them, this amazing looking cookie dough – red velvet chocolate chip? Yes please. I’m going with the excuse that tomorrow’s my birthday, and it makes sense to have a little treat, right?
In case it’s not clear, I did take one kid to the store with me for this last pre-snow shopping trip, so that may explain some of the choices I made.
What are your snow day essentials? What do you have to have available if you know you might be trapped?
